Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season! We’re ready to ring in the New Year with some fantastic new pens. Back in August of ’21, I shared our first review of the Maiora Pen Company’s Mytho Fountain Pen Collection (as you can see here). Then at the end of November ’21, I shared the incredible news of the return of Delta Pens coming soon this year (see that blog post here). Now, I’m happy to introduce a very limited edition Maiora – the Maiora Tondo Doni Fountain Pen.
First of all, as I mentioned, the Maiora Tondo Doni Fountain Pen is very limited. In fact, it’s so limited that only 18 pieces were produced worldwide. This pen is a tribute to Michelangelo Buonarroti. The Tondo Doni by Michelangelo is on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Can you believe it’s still in its original frame? This is very rare ancient masterpieces, and it has been assumed that it was carved following a drawing made by Michelangelo himself.
Secondly, as you can see in the pictures, this Tondo Doni L.E. Fountain Pen is turned from a purple-ish solid bar of ebonite. In addition, it’s then given a polished surface, making the pen smooth to touch. Accompanied by Sterling Silver accents, the beautifully engraved cap band resembles ancient Pompeii.
Finally, the filling system is a smooth twist-action piston mechanism. Importantly, what I think is an extra nice touch is the clear viewing window, which lets you easily see when your ink is running low. Speaking of the ink, I recommend filling this pen with Monteverde’s Purple Reign bottled ink. It’s a vibrant purple to match the purple ebonite. As for the nib, it’s made of 18k gold. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and 1.1 stub nib sizes.
