I’m a big fan of Conklin pens – both older and newer. Their quality gets better and better with each year that passes. Therefore, I feel like Conklin pens are great everyday workhorses of a pen. As an added bonus, they look beautiful and feel great in the hand. When I saw the new Conklin Endura Deco Crest Pen Collection, my first thought was how I need all six pens.
First of all, the Conklin Endura Deco Crest Pen Collection is a revival of the Deco period. Deco is known as a design era from the mid-1920’s. This era was a large influence on the modern art world from architecture to fashion. Yes, even the pen industry shows influence from this period. That’s why these new Conklins are a “throwback” or tribute to those older designs.
Secondly, the colors in this collection are stunning. I love how the metal overlay matches the resin underneath. Chrome goes over the solid black resin. Rose gold goes over the marbled blue resin. Perhaps my favorite, the gunmetal goes over the orange marbled resin. I’m definitely reminded of Delta Pen’s style.
Importantly, the Endura Deco Crest is available in both fountain pen and ballpoint. The fountain pen refills via cartridge/converter filling system. It’s equipped with a smooth, high-quality steel JoWo nib. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, stub, and Omniflex. The ballpoint is equipped with a smooth twist-action retraction mechanism. Refill it easily with Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
Finally, the overall size and shape of the Endura Deco Crest is middle-of-the-road. It’s not too big, not too small. As a cylindrical pen, it’s very comfortable. Not to mention, the heft is substantial, but not so much as to tire your hand. Also noteworthy is how the intricate filigree overlay doesn’t affect your hand. The grip section is low enough that the metal is still unobtrusive.
