The Diplomat Pen Company really seems to have a thing for the famous Zeppelin aircraft. I, for one, am glad they do. First of all, a Zeppelin is a type of rigid airship. It’s named after the German inventor Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. He pioneered rigid airship development at the start of the 20th century. Diplomat has a few pens based on the airship design. With the entire Aero pen collection being modeled after the Zeppelin, we now have the Diplomat Zepp Limited Edition Pen Collection.
Even though the Zeppelin airships had a fabric-covered, rigid metal framework, the Diplomat Zepp Limited Edition Pen Collection is not covered in fabric. However, much like how the airship is made of a combination of aluminum, copper, and a few other metals, the Diplomat Zepp’s body is made of anodized aluminum. Above all, this pays homage to the Zeppelin.
Notably, the ornate woven metal lace design on the clip and ends of the pen also pay homage to the Zeppelin’s faceted structure and body. Also, the cap and barrel of the Zepp are faceted with 12 sides to resemble the Zeppelin. Two versions of the pen were made. One has chrome metal accents, while the other has 3D casted brass metal accents. Therefore, hidden underneath the top metal plug is the Diplomat flower logo. The clip is spring-loaded, and covers the limited edition number that discreetly resides underneath. The cap is threaded for secure closure.
Moreover, limited to 500 pieces each, both versions are available in fountain pen and rollerball. Importantly, the fountain pen is equipped with a 14k gold nib. It’s available in your choice of: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad nib. I imagine filling this pen with Monteverde’s Capri Blue ink because it’s like writing with a sky-blue cloud. However, as for the rollerball, it refills with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills.
