Last year we were introduced to the Faber-Castell Hexo Pen Collection (see my review here). As far as everyday writers go, this collection is a great addition to the Faber-Castell lineup. They started off the Hexo with Black, Silver, and Rose color options. Now, I’m incredibly happy with the addition of the new Faber-Castell Hexo Blue and Bronze Pens to the collection. What makes the Hexo so great? Form, function, and value to say the least.
First of all, the Faber-Castell Hexo Blue and Bronze Pens are made of metal. This means you’re getting a really durable pen – regardless of whether you choose the fountain pen, rollerball, or the ballpoint. The cap and barrel is made of aluminum. I like how this also keeps the pen lightweight. And the matte finish on these pens makes them understated, rather than shiny and showing off. These colors are stylish and trendy, while not too bold.

Secondly, the design is ergonomic. It’s so comfortable to hold the Hexo in your hand. Its hexagonal shape fits the contours of your hand wonderfully, regardless of the angle. Did you know the hexagonal shape is also homage to the Faber-Castell hexagonal pencil? The Hexo is also perfectly balanced with or without the cap.
As for the fountain pen, it uses the standard international size cartridge or converter filling system. You can choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad nib widths. I like how many choices you have with Faber-Castell’s high quality steel nib. Not to mention how fun it is to see the translucent grip section where you can see the ink trickle down through the feed to the nib.
Last but not least are the rollerball and ballpoint. The rollerball uses a standard Schmidt 888 or 5888 refill. The ballpoint actually comes with Faber-Castell’s large-capacity broad point Parker Style refill in black document-proof ink. This means you can also refill it with Monteverde’s Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
