As I recently reviewed the Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen (see the review here), it’s only fitting to now talk about their newest release of the Shunkei Series. After much anticipation, the Platinum #3776 LE Kinshu Fountain Pen is finally here. In case you’re not aware, the Kinshu is the fifth and final pen in the Shunkei Series. The Platinum #3776 fountain pens are wonderful writers to begin with, and this limited edition is even more fun.
First of all, there are 10 pen models made in total: the Fuji Five Lakes, and the Fuji Shunkei. The term “Kinshu” refers to the seasonal Autumn in which trees turn a beautiful shade of red. Therefore this pen, the Platinum #3776 LE Kinshu fountain pen, is inspired by that seasonal scenery. As the final pen in the Shunkei series, it’s fitting that the Kinshu stands apart from the other Fuji Shunkei pens by being the only one to be adorned with gold trim.
Additionally, the Kinshu is fitted with Platinum’s high-quality 14k gold nib. As you might imagine, there are only a few remaining at Bertram’s Inkwell, and therefore the available nib sizes are: extra fine, fine, and medium. It fills via Platinum’s cartridge/converter filling system, and I think that Monteverde’s Gemstone Ruby Ink would be a perfect match.
One of the many features that I love about the #3776 is Platinum’s Slip and Seal technology. This allows your ink to stay fresh and ready for up to 24 months inside the pen. And since the Kinshu is made of a highly detailed translucent red resin, you can see the remaining ink level inside the barrel. The pattern on the barrel depicts fiery fall foliage in great detail. Additionally, the cap ring is unique to have three-dimensional raised letters.
