As you may know, I’m a huge fan of music. I love listening to it, dancing to it, and even combining hobbies with journaling to music in the background. Whenever a company in the pen industry does something involving music, I pay extra close attention. Writing instruments and paper go (literally) hand in hand with the process of creating music. Whether it’s writing down lyrics or instrumental notes, there is a connection. That’s why I’m so excited about the newest from Field Notes: the Field Notes Maggie Rogers Sketch Book.
First of all, Maggie Rogers is a musician that is a fan of Field Notes. Apparently the feeling is mutual as Field Notes employees are fans of Rogers. In 2019, they reached out to Rogers and invited her to tour the Field Notes headquarters. Since it was during a stop on her music tour, she came over and collaborated with Field Notes on this project. This way she could also sell these sketch books to her fans at her concerts.
Secondly the Field Notes Maggie Rogers Sketch Book is a two pack. We’re used to getting three books from Field Notes, but much like their “Dime Novel” edition, this is a larger and thicker book. Therefore we only get two per pack. Yet these two books are nothing to sneeze at. This larger 4.25” x 6.5” size compares to their standard 3.5” x 5.5” books.
Finally, did I mention these sketch books contain 72 pages? That’s a lot of room to record sketches, doodles, thoughts, tidbits, and whatever you want to express on these blank pages. As the paper is incredibly fountain pen friendly, it’s also conducive to pencil use for your sketches. The “Blood Ballet” book has a red back cover and red tinted spine. Next, “The Echo” one has a blue back cover and blue tinted spine. They’re sewn in signature, and made of premium Strathmore covers and inner pages. Enjoy seeing tipped-in velum fly sheets that contain Rogers’ original hand written lyrics.
