A few years ago the Kaweco Liliput took the pen industry by storm. It’s small, compact, all metal yet not super heavy, and extremely functional. Following its success is its “big brother” the Supra. The Supra is like a super-sized version of the Liliput. It has all the previous great features plus more. With the Liliput, rumor has it that the owner of Kaweco did all the anodizing by hand himself. I imagine this would be the same with the new Kaweco Supra Fireblue Fountain Pen.
One of the things that makes this pen unique is that no two finishes will be identical due to the hand-blued process used to anodize the steel. Each pattern will be similar, but not identical. And I love how different it is from the recent trend of “rainbow” pens. Those don’t quite do it for me. It’s really fun to see this anodized Fireblue finish all over the pen – even on the grip section and all threads.
As previously mentioned, the Kaweco Supra Fireblue Fountain Pen is similar to the Liliput, but larger. It’s a thicker, longer pen overall. As a larger all-metal pen, it’s significantly heavier. This means you can also write easily without having to apply as much pressure from the nib to paper. The nib is a huge nib (compared to the smaller nibs on the Sport, Liliput, etc.), that Kaweco mentions is compatible with other 250 thread nib sections. It’s available in your choice of extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and double broad.
One of the great things about the Supra Fireblue being thicker and longer is that now you can fit a full size Schmidt K5 (non-threaded) converter, or two international size cartridges in there. However, just like its smaller counterpart, there is a clip available for it. But similarly, it does come separately from the pen.
Finally, the most important thing that makes this pen stand apart is its customizability. What I mean by that is how the middle section is removable to shorten/lengthen this pen. There’s threads on the back of the pen for you to securely post the cap on the back if you want to experiment with different lengths.
