Something I find interesting is that thinner pens don’t get a lot of attention. For a pen collection to get a lot of recognition, it usually needs to be bigger and thicker. Yet a high-quality pen collection that has a slim shape and profile comes in handy. I think there’s something classic and classy about them. Possibly the most well-known of the thinner pens are the Cross Century and the Waterford Claria collections. Therefore, when I saw the new Laban Antique II Pen Collection, my curiosity was piqued. I ended up getting the red fountain pen, and wow is it a fun pen to write with.
First of all, the Laban Antique II Pen Collection is available in four colors, and as a fountain pen and rollerball only. I’m disappointed that there’s no ballpoint option in such a great collection. The main things that help the Antique II line stand apart are the color options and the construction and material. As for the color options, choose from: Red, Rose Gold, Gold, and Gunmetal. If you like a classic shape and design, look no further. All four color options are beautiful (to say the least). I love how the pinstripe lines remind me of wearing a luxury pinstripe suit.
Secondly, the material of an all-metal pen provides a substantial feel to go with a signature deluxe look. Speaking of how it feels, you can actually feel the indentations in the pinstripe lines on the cap and barrel. I feel like this adds to the experience. The smooth grip section is perfect to hold in the hand for extended writing. In addition, the clip is a spring-loaded clip with a wonderful amount of grip.
Finally, there are plenty of nib options for the fountain pen. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad nib sizes. It’s a smooth steel nib, and writes well right out of the box. Mine is a broad nib size, and it just glides across the paper. As for filling, you can easily fill with a standard international cartridge/converter filling system. The rollerball uses Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. Both the fountain pen and rollerball have a secure threaded cap closure system.
