I recently enjoyed reviewing the Laban Rosa Pen Collection (see the review here). Continuing with the Laban pens I picked up at the Philly Pen Show, I’m still so impressed with their colors. I love their depth and variation of color from pen to pen. The Laban Canyon Pen Collection is exemplary of this. Believe it or not, even pictures don’t seem to do justice to capturing the range of color in its marbled resin cap and barrel. This collection is the perfect blend of contemporary and classic.
First of all, the Laban Canyon Pen Collection is available in five colors: Koi, Gr, Ic, Sum, and Tm. Don’t ask me how to pronounce those, haha. They’re all made from high quality Italian resin. Koi is a combination of red, blue, white, and clear marbled resin. Gr is a bluish-grey marbled resin. Ic is more of a light blue, grey, and clear marbled resin. Sum is probably my favorite one. It’s made of a blue, yellow, and clear marbled resin. Last but not least, Tm is more of an ivory, brownish resin.
Secondly, (in my humble opinion) the Canyon collection resembles a cross between the Parker Duofold and the Bexley Demeter pens. Importantly, their cylindrical shape is very comfortable in the hand. I’d have to say this is a mid-size to larger size pen overall. Yet, the resin material keeps these pens light enough to prevent tiring your hand with extended writing. I like the traditional thick cap band, long clip, and the ball at the end of the clip.
Finally, I still maintain that more Laban pens should be made as ballpoints. Therefore, the Canyon Collection is available as a fountain pen and rollerball only. I do like the way these fountain pens write. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad high quality steel nibs. The fountain pen fills via standard international size cartridge or converter filling system. Enjoy refilling your rollerball with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills.
