Many times we look at buying a fountain pen as either needing to be entry level or higher end. But there’s something to be said for a great mid-range fountain pen. When it looks aesthetically pleasing, feels comfortable in the hand, and performs incredibly well, you’ve landed a winner. Montegrappa knows just how to provide such a pen. A few years back, when Montegrappa created the Fortuna line, it was easy to see how it’s a substantial pen with great value. A complete game changer. Then different finishes and accents came into play. The Montegrappa Fortuna Reserve Satellitare fountain pen is the newest version, and is limited to only 80 pieces.
This is the first in a series of new finishes using materials from previous Montegrappa pens. After those pens retired, the materials remain unused. Sometimes these special acrylics, resins, etc. stay in the vault for many years. This way if an older pen needs repair, there’s plenty of material to work with. But why let the material just sit there when it can be repurposed into another pen model? That’s the idea behind the Montegrappa Fortuna Reserve Satellitare, as well as the whole Reserve series.
This beautiful deep blue resin is marked with a yellow-ish lightning-strike pattern all over the pen. The chrome appointments (clip and cap ring) accent this pen nicely. Not to mention the #6 JoWo steel nib that makes the Satellitare fountain pen so functional. Of course this comes with a wide range of options for the nib sizes: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub 1.1. Like the other Fortuna fountain pens, this also uses a cartridge/converter filling system.
I like the metal threads on the grip section. It’s secure and won’t wear over time. I also enjoy how nicely balanced the Montegrappa Fortuna Reserve Satellitare is. It’s thicker like a Pelikan M600, but not too thick. Overall, for an unnumbered limited edition, the value here is incredible.

Another great success was the Montegrappa Fortuna Marshmallow fountain pen. Even though it definitely looks light and fluffy, you don’t want to eat it! This one is limited to 100 pieces. Check out the last one left here.
