Gardens have long been a place for meditative contemplation. They provide us with an escape from a world that constantly demands our attention. Do you find the same (or similar) tranquility while writing as you do while gardening? I find that using a higher-end pen and pencil provides a great inner peace – yes, even when using them for work. I like Blackwing’s representation of this concept in the new Blackwing Volume 17 The Gardening Pencil.
First of all, the Blackwing Volume 17 The Gardening Pencil examines the mindful practice of gardening. Above all, each pencil features an earth-toned color palette. In other words, the olive green finish, dark brown ferrule and imprint, and burgundy eraser all combine to provide a calm vibe.
Notably, each pencil also sports their balanced graphite. Thankfully that will provide a softer, smoother gliding of your pencil over the paper. I feel like that’s appropriate for this garden theme. In addition, there’s a 10cm ruler stamped into its barrel. This way you can use it to chart the growth of your seedlings in your plant log.
Gardening has been proven to uplift spirits and lower stress and anxiety. It provides us with an opportunity for new growth, a meaningful routine, and a template for nurturing other aspects of our lives. Just as there are 17 essential nutrients for healthy plant growth, there are many essential “nutrients” for a fulfilling life. Keeping a garden allows us to tend to ourselves with love, happiness, and purpose. How will you use yours?
