A few years back, Dante del Vecchio joined Pineider, a renowned paper company. Dante is a creative genius, with a passion for pens. As he heads Pineider’s pen department, it’s no surprise when new, great, innovative writing instruments are born. First in the Pineider line-up is the La Grande Bellezza. Soon after came La Grande Bellezza Gemstone, and the Mystery Filler. As incredible as these pen models are (which I hope to explore why with you in future blogs), Pineider upped the ante even more upon launching the Avatar collection. There are many iterations of the Avatar, finally bringing us to the most recent release – the Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe fountain pen.
I love what is perhaps the best feature of the Avatar series – the Unbreakable Resin. As you may guess, that’s what the “UR” stands for in its name. Virtually unbreakable, the reassurance of having a durable pen such as the Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe fountain pen is comforting. A fun story about this is when Dante came over to the U.S. for launching the release of the Avatar UR. He met with myself and Ken Jones (Vice President Of Sales at Yafa Pen Co.) at a nice restaurant. After some “small talk” over drinks and appetizers, Dante produced the Avatar UR from his suit jacket pocket for the big reveal. Upon mentioning how special, durable, and unbreakable the resin on this pen is, he promptly threw it across the restaurant to demonstrate! We inspected the Avatar and, impressively, there wasn’t even a scratch!
Speaking of the Unbreakable Resin, I also enjoy the pearlized color options available to choose from. The names are as creative as the colors themselves: Abalone Green, Angel Skin, Devil Red, Forest, Graphene Black, Neptune Blue, and finally Riace Bronze. With this many color options, there’s plenty of appeal. And while we carry both the fountain pen and rollerball, unfortunately ballpoints aren’t part of the Deluxe lineup yet.
One thing that distinguishes the Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe fountain pen from the other Avatar UR models is the trim. It has 23K gold plated appointments, including the clip, which helps it stand out. Even the threads connecting the barrel and grip section have the 23K gold plating.
Like the other Avatar pens, this also uses an international cartridge/converter filling system. Yet, different from other models, is a beautiful matching UR grip section. The attention to detail on this fountain pen is exquisite.
The piece de resistance on the Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe fountain pen is the nib. If you’ve used (or even better – own) the Pineider Gemstone fountain pen, then you’re familiar with their “springy” 14K hyperflex nib. It’s such a dream to write with! Believe it or not, I recommend the extra fine nib size. It provides such amazing line variation, without worrying about messing up the nib.
I’m excited about this pen, and love how it has a classy look and feel overall. I can’t wait to see what Pineider thinks of next!
