It’s always so fun to find uniquely shaped pens! When I see a pen line that strays from the standard cylinder, oval, “cigar shape”, etc., that makes it stand out. Pininfarina is a pen company that definitely goes above and beyond with their creativity. We first saw their products with the Cambiano, and most recently the Grafeex (see my blog on that here). Those lines introduced writing instruments that didn’t use refills. They’re very uniquely shaped, and even come with a desk stand. Next up is the Pininfarina PF Two Pen Collection. I got to see the new Pininfarina PF Two Pen Collection in person at the Bertram’s Inkwell Annual Pen Fair. It was also a hit with the attendees.
First of all, the Pininfarina PF Two Pen Collection is available as a fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint. All three modes are available in two colors: black and blue. While any color ink looks good coming out of a black pen, I recommend filling the blue fountain pen with Monteverde’s Capri Blue ink. It’s a lighter blue pen, so a lighter blue ink matches nicely.
Secondly, the fountain pen uses a cartridge or converter filling system. It’s also equipped with a high quality steel nib. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad nib sizes. The rollerball uses Schmidt 888 or 5888 refills. As for the ballpoint, it employs a smooth twist-action retraction. You’re able to refill with your favorite Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
Finally, the precise micromechanical work is what won me over on the PF Two collection. The way that Pininfarina’s work on the aluminum feels so great in the hand makes these pens so desirable. Combining form and function, these pens are wonderful whether you get them as gifts for yourself or for someone else.
