I am a huge fan of Visconti pens in general. They are known for being finely crafted Italian writing instruments that are also very functional. Back in 2018, Visconti launched the Mirage collection. What I love most about the Visconti Mirage Mythos Athena Pen Collection is the depth and richness of colors.
First of all, the new Visconti Mirage Mythos Athena Pen Collection celebrates the goddess Athena. In ancient Greece, she was associated with wisdom, warfare and handicraft. Later, since the Italian Renaissance, she became an international symbol of wisdom, the arts and classical learning.
Secondly, available as a fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint, there are plenty of options. Notably, the cap is magnetic, and has a cool locking feature that kinda “snaps” the cap into a specific slot in the grip section of the barrel. This way the grooves in the cap and barrel line up nicely when you close them together. This is different from their Rembrandt and Van Gogh series where the cap is still magnetic, but spins freely on the barrel.
This fountain pen uses a standard international size cartridge/converter filling system. I like how you can easily fill it with your favorite ink this way. The nib is a steel nib with a plastic feed. Both are a little smaller than I feel matches the larger pen, however this definitely doesn’t impact performance. It still writes like a dream, just as all my other Visconti fountain pens do. Choose from fine, medium, and broad nibs.
Greek mythology teaches that the Olympian gods are immortal beings, governing the life and death of human beings.
“‘Telemachus’, the bright-eyed goddess Athena reassured him, ‘some of the words you’ll find within yourself, the rest some power will inspire you to say.”‘
-Homer
The Oxford Companion to Classical Literature tells us that In Homer’s epic works Athena’s most common epithet is “Glaukopis” that is “bright-eyed” or “with gleaming eyes”, which has also been interpreted to mean blue-eyed or grayish blue-eyed, the colors of the sea and wise and alert like an owl.
Finally, this pen is a perfect inspiration for artists and writers who can channel this muse as they enjoy expressing themselves with this beautiful sea blue Mythos, a color which itself symbolizes serenity, inspiration and wisdom.
